The Illinois Senate’s Committee on Agriculture Chairman Bill Cunningham has appointed State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) as Vice-Chairperson of Agriculture.

“Senator Bennett has continued to show a passion for promoting agriculture throughout his community and the state,” Cunningham said. “He understands the important role agriculture plays in our state’s economy and will be an asset to the committee as vice chairman.”

Bennett has been serving on the committee for the last two years. He is excited for an opportunity to steer and promote agriculture policies in the senate.

“Agribusiness is the backbone of our economy,” Bennett said. “It’s important we promote agriculture business policies in Illinois to protect the rights of Illinois farmers as well as creating an environment to foster and encourage more people to work in this fine profession.”

Bennett is no stranger to agriculture having spent time on his family’s farm in Gibson City. Last month, he spent some time with the Vermilion County Farm Bureau visiting with Executive Director Kerry Wienke and the legislative committee to give them a Springfield update and discuss agriculture issues important to the state and community.

Bennett encourages area farmers to reach out to his Champaign office at (217) 355-5252 or Danville office at (217) 442-5252 with any legislative proposals, issues or ideas.
